A very warm welcome to Year 1 and SPARKLE class where
‘we all sparkle due to our unique personalities’.
This year, your child will be taught by myself, Miss Ashworth, alongside our morning teaching assistant, Miss Todd. Year 1 includes 15 amazingly enthusiastic children who are all eager to achieve new goals through a fun and faithful learning environment. Year 1 are settling in well and we are working on the transition between Foundation Stage and Year 1 being as smooth as possible. Learning through play will continue to be an important part of the school day, and the children will gradually be eased into more formal learning as the year goes on so that they remain motivated, enthused and eager learners.
So far this school year we have really enjoyed investigating and exploring our topic ‘The Great Outdoors’. We have explored our natural world through the local environment, creating 3D artwork, learning common flower names and locating local places of interest. We have thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Healey Dell where we used our senses to create a woodland story and created artwork using the natural materials we found. Following our newly introduced scheme ‘Maths No Problem’, we have enjoyed working practically to find solutions and have been exploring the different approaches to learning new skills. In Phonics, we have already learnt lots of new sounds in preparation for our phonics screening check near the end of the school year.
Together we are continuously journeying along our path of faith and have been learning all about different families and how we are all one big family belonging to God our Father.
We wish everyone a happy, successful year and we will strive to do our very best to help your child sparkle in class 1.
