Design and Technology

"Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values."

National Curriculum

Miss LeVardi is our schools Design Technology Subject Leader.

Miss LeVardi loves the practical aspect to DT and enjoys working with the children to see their excitement once they have finished their DT projects. She believes it gives a chance for all children to display their talents.

In our school, we allow children the opportunity to plan, design and evaluate their work. We also look at different designers throughout the curriculum to ensure children are aware of different designers and this provides them with different aspirations.

How we intend DT is taught in our school?

Our Lady & St. Anselm’s understands that Design and Technology allows pupils to solve problems, think creatively and develop ideas within a defined purpose and tangible outcome. The school is committed to nurturing pupils’ curiosity, as well as preparing them for living in a modern world where technology is rapidly changing and advancing.

What we aim to achieve in DT?

We are aware that within our local area of Whitworth there is a range of engineering and joinery industries. We try where possible to make links to our topic studied in class to make learning experiences real, as well as relevant connections to science and maths. As we are a Healthy Eating School, we know that health and nutrition is important and we encourage the children to eat a healthy, balanced diet. We therefore ensure the children study a health and nutrition DT topic each year and are given opportunities to learn skills for cooking.
