What we will be learning:

Building on from the previous topic of The Saxons, the children will explore the struggle that later ensued for the Kingdon of England (the Viking and Anglo-Saxon struggle for the Kingdom of England to the time of Edward the Confessor).

This could include:

• Viking raids and invasion
• resistance by Alfred the Great and Athelstan, first king of England (political and military)
• further Viking invasions and Danegeld
• Anglo-Saxon laws and justice (building on from Crime and Punishment in Year 4)
• Edward the Confessor and his death in 1066
