Music

Here at Our Lady and Saint Anselm’s RC Primary, we understand that music can inspire and motivate children, and play an important role in their personal development. Music can also assist children to develop a greater appreciation of the world we live in, by understanding different cultures and societies through music. We construct and deliver accessible and enjoyable musical learning experiences and our children are encouraged to participate in a variety of musical experiences within Rochdale and Whitworth through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children. Outside agencies complement our music curriculum and we enrich our children’s learning through a broad spectrum of musical club opportunities such as Brass, Recorder, Wood Wind and Choir.

Our Lady and Saint Anselm’s RC Primary delivers a broad and balanced music curriculum, in line with national requirements. This enables our children to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians. They learn to sing and use their voices, create and compose music on their own and alongside their peers and have the opportunities to learn a musical instrument, use technology properly and to progress to the next level of musical excellence. We strongly believe it is important for our children to understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.

Mrs Twist is our Music Subject Leader here at Our Lady and Saint Anselm's.

She oversees the Music Curriculum throughout the school and is passionate about ensuring all our children have access to a broad and enriching music curriculum which inspires self-confidence and creativity.
