Transport in the local area through time

What we will be learning:

In this topic, it will focus upon a local history study - The local trainline through Whitworth and the development of transport to the present. The children will gain an understanding of the political and social aspects that once were prevalent in a local area. They will consider the achievements and follies of man through the creation and expansion of the steam train. It will focus on a time beyond 1066, and consider the impact of transport upon local industry to the wider world.

The topic will link nicely to the unit children will build upon in Year 5: Industrial Revolution and the impact upon Whitworth. Here the children will revise the learning again to develop a deeper understanding into how important the train line was to industry at that time.
