Class Mass: Wednesday, 19th November 2025 - Vocation
On Wednesday, Succeed class celebrated Mass with Father Chris on the theme of vocation. We followed the Gospel of Luke 5:1-11 when Jesus Calls His First Disciples:
One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signalled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
This taught us that on their own, the disciples couldn't catch any fish. But with Jesus' help, they were able to catch all the fish they needed. Just like Jesus helped his disciples, he can help you if you ask him to. Remember to ask Jesus for help when you feel alone, or afraid, or sad because Jesus can help us be strong.
To reflect upon the past and present wars, children in succeed completed a collective worship on remembrance. We gathered to remember all those past and present who have been affected by war.
For those who continue to suffer:
We remember before you all who have given their lives in the service of others in war. In gratitude we honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We hold in your presence those who continue to suffer because of war. Comfort and sustain all who bear the scars and tears of conflict.
For all who have died in service:
Almighty and eternal God, from whose love in Christ we cannot be parted, either by death or life: hear our prayers and thanksgivings for all whom we remember this day; fulfil in them the purpose of your love; and bring us all, with them, to your eternal joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Through stories and reflection, the children explored the scripture of the Corinthians to identify the meaning and actions of unconditional love. We gathered to remember ways people show us love and how we can show it unconditionally too within the community.
Luke 15:11-32 -
“Prodigal” means being wastefully extravagant. In this story the man's son recklessly and wastefully spends his inheritance. This parable teaches that to love unconditionally, we must always forgive mistakes, accept one another and always welcome people back without consequence.
